Chemical Compostion OF Plasma Membrane

Chemical Composition of plasma membrane-

Plsma membrane consists of-

  • Lipids
  • Proteins
  • Carbohydrayes

The ratio of protein to lipids various

  • Plasma membrane of RBC contains 43% lipids and 49% protein.
  • Plasma membrane of mouse, liver cells cotains 54% lipids and 46% protein.

Lipids-

  • Two leaflets of amphipathic lipid molecules present on the plasma membrane.

  • Polar heads are facing toward extra intracellular aqueous phase wheareas their non polar tails face each orther, constituting hydrophobic interrior.

Chemical Compostion OF Plasma Membrane

  • There are three classes of lipids molecules present in lipids bilayer.

  • Phospholipid

  • Glycolipid

  • Sterol

  Structure of phospholipids-
